The Design of Lakehouse Juolas
The primary goal of the Lakehouse design concept is: The lake, forest and nature are the star of the show. The role of the house is to allow experiencing nature while still living cosy and comfortable.
Design goals
Make the surrounding nature the star of the show.
Wake up "in the forest" right next to the blueberry branches.
Use glass walls as much as possible to provide great views over the lake landscape.
Add a huge terrace to expand the cottages living space and bring the lake even closer.
Leave everything around the Lakehouse in natural state. No grass, no garden, just forest.
The house should blend into the forest and landscape and not stand out.
Make the house energy efficient.
Architecture style
The architecture of the cottage design is Nordic style. The basic characteristics are simplicity and functionality with the use of a lot of wood and light shades with wood in the interior. It is a modern house with all amenities one would need in everyday life.
"In the middle of nowhere"
The house is what most people would call "in the middle of nowhere". You will travel multiple kilometers of gravel roads into the forest and deeper into the Lakeland in order to arrive at the Lakehouse. The nearest "center" is 10+ km away.
The fact that there are no water pipes or sewers in the middle of the forest does create a challenge. They are needed for WCs, showers, etc. Because of this we have a 150m deep bore-well which provides the clean water and we have our own waste water treatment system. Of course electricity and WIFI too! Everything you need in a modern house!
